Soul Voices Perform Songs From Civil Rights Movement March 24

The 60-voice Soul Voices choir under the direction of Pete Malinverni perform songs that moved people to action in their spring concert, "Oh Freedom!" Performing Arts Center at 7 PM. Details.

The exciting Purchase College Soul Voices Choir will give their annual spring concert, “Oh Freedom!” on March 24 at 7 PM in the Performing Arts Center. They will perform songs from the American civil rights movement in celebration of the power of music to move people to action. Selections will include spirituals and protest songs as well as popular soul works by Sly Stone and Stevie Wonder.

 

Membership of the 60-voice Soul Voices choir is drawn from the entire campus, its diverse membership united in song.  They are led by  Conductor /Arranger  Pete Malinverni, who serves on the Jazz Studies faculty of the Purchase College School of the Arts Conservatory of Music.

 

An internationally known Jazz pianist/composer, Steinway Artist Pete Malinverni has performed at leading clubs, festivals and concert halls worldwide-including Carnegie Recital Hall-and his 12 albums as a leader have consistently received high accolades and heavy airplay. He served for 18 years as Music Director of the Devoe Street Baptist Church Gospel Choir in Brooklyn.

 

He has a residence in Pound Ridge, NY, and is the pianist/conductor at the Westchester Reform Synagogue in Scarsdale, NY.
