The Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program identifies outstanding emerging jazz artists in their mid-teens to Age 30, and brings them together under the tutelage of experienced artist instructors who counsel them, helping them to polish their performance, composing and arranging skills. Quentin was selected from 125 applicants.
The two-week long residency program includes daily workshops and rehearsals with established jazz artists, and culminates in three concerts on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, which will be broadcast live over the internet.
Betty Carter possessed one of this era’s extraordinary voices and was devoted to jazz education. Her Jazz Ahead program, which she brought to the Kennedy Center in 1998, has launched the careers of several of today’s stars.
