The Purchase Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Michael Adelson will perform Beethoven's Eighth Symphony, and Respighi' Pines of Rome on February 18 in the Performing Arts Center at 8 PM. Tickets $22.50.
Special guest will be Hugo Souza winner of the Purchase Symphony Orchestra's Concerto Competition. A Conservatory student from the School of the Arts, he will perform the Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra by Bohuslav Martinu.
The concert theme "Inventing yourself" presents an evening of three important works in the lives of the artists. "Beethoven's Eighth Symphony is charming and witty, nonetheless it represented a tremendous advance in his powers of invention," said Adelson.
"With the Pines of Rome, Respighi set a new standard for himself and for the musical world of the sonic spectacular. And Purchase's own Hugo Souza marks a significant advance in his own career with this performance of the Martinu Oboe Concerto."
