Purchase College once again took home a National Opera Association award for its annual opera production.  Professor Jacque Trussel, Director of Voice and Opera Studies at Purchase was the director of the 2010 production of Mozart's Die Zauberflote and Professor Hugh Murphy was musical director.

Through its awards programs, the National Opera Association seeks to promote a greater appreciation of opera and music theatre and to increase performance opportunities by supporting projects that improve the scope and quality of opera.

The Purchase production was presented as a “singspiel" or musical comedy including both singing and spoken dialogue. Composed in 1791, it lays out Mozart's philosophy of life with valor and wit. The opera was sung in German with English subtitles and included the charming dialogue of W. H. Auden.  The production included the Purchase Symphony Orchestra conducted by Hugh Murphy with set and costume designs by members of the Purchase Design and Technology program.
