Melissa Leo Wins Golden Globe Award for Role in "The Fighter"

Former Purchase student Melissa Leo won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture at the Jan. 16 awards ceremony. Alums Stanley Tucci, Shea Whigham, and Edie Falco appeared in films and shows that were nominated. Details.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association hosted the 68th Annual Golden Globe Melissaleo GoldenGlobe 2010.jpg Awards  ceremony on January 16 in Los Angeles. Seen in more than 160 countries, it is one of the few award ceremonies that spans both television and motion picture achievements. 


Edie Falco, starring in the TV series Nurse Jackie was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series-Comedy or Musical. 


Melissa Leo, won for Best Supporting Actress in the film The Fighter  and portrayed an aggressive stage mother to two sons enmeshed in the cutthroat world of boxing.  The film starred Christian Bale and Mark Whalberg. 


Stanley Tucci, appeared in a supporting role in the film Burlesque which was nominated for Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical. Burlesque won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.


Shea Whigham is a season regular on the television series Boardwalk Empire which won

for Best Television Series and actor Steve Buscemi won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series for his starring role in Boardwalk.
