Purchase Repertory Theatre Presents Durang Durang at Emelin Theatre Feb. 10-13

The Purchase Repertory Theatre will once again perform at the Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck, NY the oldest continuously operating performing arts theatre in Westchester County.


This year's production Durang Durang takes place February 10-13 and is a collection of seven biting, hilarious short plays and skits by Christopher Durang, America's master satirist. The skits poke fun at the pretensions of American theatre and include: Business Lunch at the Russian Tea Room, Funeral Parlor, Parents in a Playground, DMV Tyrant, Identity Crisis, Canker Sores and Other Distractions, and 1-900-Desperate.


The plays are directed by Benard Cummings and feature the Junior Acting Company of the Purchase College School of the Arts Conservatory of Theatre Arts. Performances are Feb. 10 at 8 PM., Feb. 11 at 7:30 PM, Feb 12 at 2 & 7:30 PM, and Feb. 13 at 2 PM.  Tickets 914-698-0098 or


Durang Durang marks the Purchase Repertory Theatre's third annual production at the Emelin, following successful runs of David Ives All in the Timing in 2009, and Bronx Kiss: The Plays of John Patrick Shanley in 2010.


Christopher Durang is known for his broad range of satire, dark comedy, parody and absurdism. Clever word play and bizarre plot twists ignite his comic masterpieces which include Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it All to You, The Marriage of Bette and Boo, and The Idiots Karamazov.


Of Durang's work, Director Benard Cummings says, "Beneath Mr. Durang's  acerbic wit, pithy satire and sometimes absurdist humor is an undercurrent of the pathos of humanity. They are exciting plays to present for the actors and the director."


Benard Cummings's directing credits with Purchase College include A Bronx Kiss: the plays of John Patrick Shanley, He has directed Off-Broadway and plays at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.  As an actor, he has appeared Off-Broadway and in regional theatres across the country as well as in episodic TV.  As a playwright his work has been produced in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Ft. Worth, Atlanta and St. Louis and London, England.   He serves on the Artistic Advisory Board for Theater East and on the acting faculty at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.  He is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Southern Methodist University, and Tyler Junior College.
