The mambo, salsa, samba and other lively Latin sounds will fill the halls of the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College on December 9 at 7 PM when the Purchase Latin Jazz Orchestra performs.
David DeJesus, head of Latin Jazz at the Purchase College School of the Arts Conservatory of Music, conducts works by Tito Puente, Machito and Maurio Bauza and others. Musicians in the Latin Jazz Orchestra are members of the renowned Purchase Conservatory of Music.

Saxophonist David De Jesus is a versatile player involved in the New York City Jazz scene. He is a member of the Grammy Award winning Arturo Oâ€™Farrell Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance and the Grammy nominated Bobby Sanabria Big Band. DeJesus has performed with such legends as Jimmy Heath, Ray Barretto, Dave Valentine, Candido, Paquito Dâ€™Rivera, the Chico Oâ€™Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz orchestra, the Village Vanguard Orchestra and the Mingus Big Band.
His latest recording credits include Bobby Sanabriaâ€™s Grammy nominated â€œBig Band Urban Folktalesâ€ and Arturo Oâ€™Farrillâ€™s upcoming album â€œ40 acres and a Burro.â€
He was a semi-finalist in the 2008 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition in Los Angeles, CA and participated in the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program in 2009 in Washington, DC.
Mr. DeJesus is a graduate of Purchase College with a Masterâ€™s Degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
