Conservatory of Dance Graduates Receive Bessie Awards

Kyle Abraham and Kayvon Pourazar, class of 2000, have each received Bessie Awards. The awards are like the Oscars of the dance world and honor exceptional choreography, performance, and other areas of dance and performance. Click for details.

Kyle Abraham and Kayvon Pourazar have won two of the highest honors in dance. The New York Dance and Performance Awards, informally known as the Bessie Awards in honor of Bessie Schonberg, a dancer and teacher. They are awarded annually for innovative achievement in dance and related performances.  Established in 1983, the awards celebrate the unique creative voices of performing artists.  They honor exceptional choreography, performance, music composition, visual design and other areas of dance and performance.  The awards were presented at Symphony Space in New York by the organization Dance/NYC in partnership with the award’s longtime producers.

 

Kyle Abraham won for his choreography of The Radio Show which was performed in February 2010 at Danspace Project.  Kayvon Pourazar won for his performance of Sarah Michelson’s Dover Beach performed at the Kitchen.
