A new work for clarinet by Suzanne Farrin, Chair of the Purchase Music Conservatory, had  its world premiere at the Town Music series at Seattle's Town Hall.

 

Clarinetist and composer Derek Bermel performed a world premiere of Suzanne Farrin's work at a Town Music concert in Seattle. The concerts are a showcase for local and national artists and exciting newcomers and veterans. The  concerts reflect the influences on the composers from teachers, mentors and cultural traditions. The result is a provocative musical evening based on the inspirations and current obsessions of the composers. 

 

 Derek Bermel regularly performs classical music concerts and also plays with rock and funk groups.  His music melds orchestral and jazz music with unlikely global traditions and influences. In addition to Ms. Farrin's work, the concert  included Brahms Trio of Clarinet, Violoncello & Piano, and the world premiere of Bermel's own Sonata Humana for cello and piano, among other works. He was joined by Joshua Roman and pianist Christopher Taylor.
