Date Released: 8/17/2010

Train to become a professional appraiser of antiques, art, personal property and more. Instructors from the American Society of Appraisers.

A new certificate program at Purchase College offers training to become a professional appraiser of art, antiques, personal property and more. The four required classes are taught by certified instructors from the American Society of Appraisers. Courses may be taken individually or in a series.

Students who complete the four required courses are awarded a certificate by Purchase College and may earn 10.8 Continuing Education Credits. Upon completion of the certificate, students have a strong foundation in valuation theory and appraisal practice methods—as well as the legal and regulatory requirements for what needs to be included in an appraisal report.

The instructor of two connoisseurship courses, Paula Baxter, is an independent design historian who spent 22 years as the curator of the art and architecture collection at The New York Public Library.  There she curated six exhibitions on design history and taught in the Library’s Public Programs. Ms. Baxter is the author of two books and numerous articles and publications such as the Encyclopedia of Interior Design, the Journal of Antiques and Collectibles, and Antiques Magazine.  For information about the program call 914-251-6500.  www.purchase.edu/ce
