Michael Lobel recently became a board member of the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation where he will review and approve the Foundation's activities. The private Foundation established in accordance with the wishes of the artist and his immediate family, aspires to encourage and support a broader understanding of the art of Roy Lichtenstein and of the contemporary art and artists of his time.
Lobel's summer stipend from NEH will enable him to research and write a book on the early 20th century American artist John Sloan, the Ashcan School (the group with which he was affiliated), and popular illustration.
