Opera Student Said Pressley Wins First Amato Opera Competition

The Amato prize assists young opera singers in preparation for their careers in this national competition. Senior Said Pressley is off to Julliard next year on a full scholarship for his MM degree.

Said Pressley, a native New Yorker is a bass-baritone and a graduate of the Boy's Choir of Harlem. He will study at Julliard next year for his Master's of Music degree and recently won  first place in the newly established Amato Opera Competition.   

The Amato Opera Competition is designed provide financial assistance for young opera singers as they prepare for their careers.

His operatic roles include Don Alfonso in Cosi Fan Tutte, Sebastian, in the world premiere recording of Lee Hoiby's The Tempest, and Simone in Gianni Schicchi. He was also a bass soloist in Bach's Magnificat at the Symphony Space Bach Festival.
