The lecture will take place at 7:30 PM in the Humanities Theatre of the Durst Family Humanities Building, 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, NY.  Admission is free and open to the public, no advanced reservations necessary.  For more information call the Jewish Studies Program at 914-251-6516.

The lecture is being cosponsored by a coalition of Westchester-based organizations coming together for the first time to promote a community-wide event: the Jewish Studies Program of Purchase College SUNY, Hillels of Westchester, Westchester Jewish Conference, Westchester Jewish Center, and the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center.

Jeffrey Herf, a leading scholar in his field, has extensively examined the Nazi propaganda activities aimed at Arabs and Muslims in the Middle East during World War II and the Holocaust. Professor Herf teaches in the Department of History at the University of Maryland.  “We are honored that Jeffrey Herf will be discussing his timely findings on our campus,” notes Prof. Rachel Hallote, Director of the Jewish Studies Program at Purchase College SUNY.  “The Holocaust and anti-Semitism in the Muslim world are contentious topics, and the issues he raises will no doubt resonate with our community.”

The Roberta Barkan Memorial lecture is one of the highlight public events of the academic year for Purchase College’s Jewish Studies Program. It is made possible largely through the generosity of the Smart Family Foundation.
