Purchase College students Amelia Feuer, Pine Bush, NY, Kaithlyn Raitz, East Islip, NY, and Zack Wilson, Troy, NY, were awarded 2008-09 Scholar Athlete Awards from SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimmer for their academic excellence and athletic achievement at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I, Division III levels.
They were among 72 students selected for this honor from 28 SUNY campuses. In all 29 sports were represented.
Amelia Feuer, won for Women's Cross Country and graduated in May.
Kaithlyn Raitz won for Women's Swimming and will be a senior next fall.
Zack Wilson won for Men's Cross Country and will be a sophomore.
"It is an honor for me to recognize these students not simply for their distinguished athletic accomplishments, but for their substantial academic achievements. These exemplary student athletes are winners on the field, and more importantly in SUNY classrooms across New York. My heartfelt congratulations go to all 72 State University scholar athletes," said Nancy L. Zimpher, State University of New York Chancellor.
The Scholar athletes were nominated by campus representatives and were reviewed and approved by SUNY System Administration and athletic directors representing SUNY Division I programs, Region 3 and Region 15 of the NJCCA, the State University of New York Athletic Conference and from independent SUNY institutions participating in Division III programs.
In order to be considered, a student's athletic accomplishments had to be recognized at the conference level or by the NCAA.
With an average GPA of 3.69, these student-athletes have combined exceptional accomplishments in the classroom with superior performances in the athletic arena.
