Brian MacDevitt Wins Tony Award for “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone”

Brian MacDevitt  won a Tony Award for his lighting design of the August Wilson play "Joe Turner’s Come and Gone" at  the Belasco Theatre. This is his second Tony Award. The first was for “Coast of Utopia.”

Working with him on this production were several from Purchase.  Jennifer Schriever '02 was the Associate Lighting Designer, Rachel Eichorn was Assistant Lighitng Designer, Zach Blane '09 was Lighting design Intern.

Associate Professor Narda E. Alcorn was Production Stage Manager, Michael Zaleski '06 was Assistant Stage Manager, Benjamin Bales Karlin '11 was Stage Management Intern along with Carly Anechiarico '11.

The Purchase Professor and alumnus has earned numerous other awards for lighting design including: Obie, Bessie, Outer Critics, Hewes Awards, and Drama Desk.

His recent  credits in NYC include: Blyth Sprit; You’re Welcome America with Will Ferrell; Dr. Atomic at the Met; Speed-the-Plow; 13-A New Musical;  American Buffalo; Puncture at the Chocolate Factory.

In the fall he will team up with director and playwright David Mamet on the play "Race" starring James Spader.
