Purchase Jazz Orchestra Presents "The Artistry of Randy Brecker" with Grammy Award-Winner Randy Brecker April 2 at the Performing Arts Center

The  Purchase Jazz Orchestra presents "The Artistry of Randy Brecker" -- an unforgettable evening of jazz music featuring Grammy Award winner Randy Brecker, April 2 at  7:30 PM in The Performing Arts Center. Jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist Randy Brecker is a jazz, rock, and R&B performer who has played with Stanley Turrentine, Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, Parliament-Funkadelic, Charles Mingus, and Blue Oyster Cult, to name a few. He has been performing for over 30 years, including his time with The Eleventh House and as part of Dreams and The Brecker Brothers with late brother Michael Brecker.  His 2008 album, Randy In Brazil, received the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz CD.

Grammy Award-winning jazz bassist Todd Coolman will conduct the 17-piece Purchase Jazz Orchestra. He serves as director of the Purchase College Jazz Studies program and has performed with such jazz luminaries as Gerry Mulligan, Stan Getz, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman and numerous others. Today, Coolman actively performs with an impressive array of artists, including James Moody, Ahmad Jamal, Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, Frank Wess and the Jon Faddis Orchestra.  

Members of the orchestra include: saxophones Bill Todd, Ian Skaronea, Sam Dillon, Matt Simons, Owen Sczerba; trombones Frank Niemeyer, Gordon Bartow, Matt Attfield, Chris Espy; trumpets Dylan Canterbury, Jonathan Saraga, Wayne Tucker, Joe Martino; rhythm section John Fastiggo; piano Kevin Barry Dutro; guitar Michael Kujawski; bass Jerard Lippi drums.
