In The Time of Your Life, the characters in the saloon find themselves chasing happy endings while a mysterious millionaire learns to appreciate the best qualities in the human spirit. The play takes "infinite delight" in all aspects of life --from the ridiculous to the profound.
In his director's note Benard Cummings says the preface by Mr. Saroyan sets the tone for the play. "In the time of your life, live -- so that in good time there shall be no ugliness or death for yourself or for any life your life touches. Seek goodness everywhere, and when it is found, bring it out of its hiding-place and let it be free and unashamed. Discover in all things that which shines and is beyond corruption. Remember that every man is a variation of yourself. The play is not only a testament to the America of William Saroyan's age but to our own."
