Brian MacDevitt Lights "Doctor Atomic" For The Metropolitan Opera

Professor Brian MacDevitt served as lighting designer for the Metropolitan Opera's new production of Doctor Atomic, a contemporary opera by composer John Adams with a libretto by Peter Sellars.  The opera recounts the events leading up to the testing of the first atomic bomb in New Mexico in 1945.  Edward Teller, J. Robert Oppenheimer and Robert Wilson are among the historic figures portrayed in this intense dramatization of the moral and social implications of the detonation of the bomb.

Brian MacDevitt is the recipient of Tonys, Obie, Bessie Outer Critics, Drama Desk and Hewes Awards.  He has been a lighting designer for numerous Broadway shows including Speed-the-Plow, A Catered Affair, The Coast of Utopia Part 1, and Inherit the Wind.
