Purple lights illuminate the Henry Moore sculpture near the entrance of Purchase College during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The College is participating in the “Shine the Light on Domestic Violence” campaign initiated for the first time by the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. The organization has asked the public to raise awareness about domestic violence by lighting buildings and structures in purple, the color representing the fight to end domestic violence.
Bulletin boards decorated in purple throughout the campus will also serve to educate the community on rates of domestic violence, the dynamics of these abusive relationships and on- or off-campus resources available for students. The programs are sponsored by the Speak Out Program at Purchase and a collaboration of the University Police and Human Resources.
