Jazz Studies graduate student and trumpet player Bruce Harris is a member of the Nial Djuliarso Quartet that was recently named winner of the ICA Generations International Competition for Emerging Jazz Combos. The competition was sponsored by the International Center for the Arts (ICA) at San Francisco State University. The Quartet was a finalist along with the six-piece Purchase College-based ensemble Meaningtone.
The Nial Djuliarso Quartet offers a sound rooted in the tradition of artists like Clifford Brown and Horace Silver. As the winning band, the Quartet receives a one-year fellowship residency in San Francisco, a $7,500 stipend per musician, performance opportunities, a recording session, a professional promotion package and career development advice and support.
