The Purchase College School of Art+Design and the Furniture Society present Seats of New York: Benches, stools and chairs from across the state, June 18-July 19 in the Richard and Dolly Maass Gallery. The exhibition highlights the range of work by New York State’s talented furniture makers. An opening reception will be held on June 18 from 7-8 PM. Admission to the Maass Gallery is free and open to the public. For gallery hours, call 914-251-6750.
Purchase College, State University of New York, is located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, N.Y. The Maass Gallery is located in the Art+Design Building.
The pieces selected for the show reflect the wide array of approaches to furniture making across New York. The benches, stools and chairs are diverse in style and historical precedent, as well as in production methods, materials and their places of origin.
The opening of this curated show coincides with the opening of the Furniture Society’s annual conference (June 18-21), hosted by Purchase College this year, as well as the opening of Multiplicity: The Art of Furniture Prototype, a juried exhibition at the Purchase College Neuberger Museum of Art. Among the works included on view in Multiplicity are a workstation, a spinning cabinet, stools made of foam, a woven steel chair and CNC-machined furniture.
Seats of New York is made possible through the generous support of Dolly Maass.
