Marco Mosquera, a shaman from the northern Peruvian city of Cajamarca, will speak at Purchase College on April 17 at 7:30 PM in the basement of Campus Center North. The event is sponsored by the Anthropology Club.
Descending from a long line of shamans (his parents, grandparents and great grandparents) and a disciple of one of the most well known shamans of Peru, Santos Vera, with whom he apprenticed for six years, Mosquera has exercised his profession for almost a quarter of a century, treating patients in magic-religious ceremonies. He is also an expert in herbal medicine, having studied in Peru and at the University of the Chapingo in Mexico City. He will be accompanied by his assistant and brother, José Vicente Mosquera.
