Purchase College Presents Free Music Concerts in April

The Purchase College School of the Arts, Conservatory of Music presents a series of free music concerts during the month of March, featuring its accomplished students and faculty in both vocal and instrumental performances. All concerts are held in the Recital Hall of the Music Building, unless otherwise noted, and are free and open to the public. For more information, call 914-251-6700.

Brass Chamber Music
Students from the Brass area perform. 12 PM.

Faculty Composers Concert The iO Quartet performs the world premiere of Yun Du’s new string quartet. 8 PM.

Composers-in-Residence
New works by Composition students. 8 PM.

Thursday, April 3
Contemporary & Percussion Ensembles
perform the music of Charles Wuorinen, Elizabeth Hoffman and others. 8 PM.

Friday, April 4
Senior Composers Concert
Featuring new works by Conservatory of Music senior students. 6 PM.

Brass Program in Concert
Students from the Brass area perform. 8 PM.

Pianists in Recital I
Accomplished graduate and undergraduate pianists perform. 8 PM.

Thursday, April 10
iO Quartet: the Billy Joel Graduate String Quartet in Residence
The iO Quartet features Wayne Lee and Christina McGann, violin, Elizabeth Weisser, viola, and Chris Gross, cello. The residency is supported by a $300,000 grant from the Billy Joel Endowment Fund. 7:30 PM.

Pianists in Recital II Accomplished graduate and undergraduate pianists perform. 8 PM.

Woodwinds: Repertoire Performance Hour
Students from the Woodwinds area perform. 8 PM.

Tuesday, April 15
Chamber Jazz
Student Jazz ensembles perform an eclectic program of standard and contemporary music. 6:30 PM, Choral Hall, Music Bldg. Also on April 22.

Conservatory Faculty String Quartet performs Haydn’s Op. 9 #6, and Beethoven’s Op. 130. Featuring Laurie Smukler and Calvin Wiersma, violins; Ira Weller, viola; and Julia Lichten, cello. 8 PM.

African Drumming Ensemble
featuring Conservatory of Music students. 8 PM.

Italian and German Opera Scenes
performed by Voice and Opera students. 7 PM.

Purchase Contemporary Ensemble
performs African-influenced contemporary music for mixed ensemble, including works by composer-in-residence Tania León and Justinian Tamusuza. 8 PM.
