Purchase College Presents a Screening of “A 'Really' Inconvenient Truth,” March 5

Date Released: 2/26/2008

On March 5 Purchase College presents a screening of “A Really Inconvenient Truth,” a video by Cambiz A. Khosravi featuring scholar and activist Joel Kovel. Professor Kovel, who teaches social studies at Bard College, argues that Al Gore’s 2006 warning about climate change misleads by overlooking the main dynamic of the problem—the irresistible pressure of capitalism to expand. The screening begins at 6:15 PM in the classroom in the Fort Awesome dormitory and will be followed by a question and answer session with Professor Kovel and Mr. Khosravi. The screening is free and open to the public. For more information, call 914-251-6620.

Purchase College, State University of New York, is located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, N.Y.

Joel Kovel ran for the United States Senate in 1998 as a Green Party candidate and sought the party’s presidential nomination in 2000 on the leading issue of overcoming climate change by limiting carbon emissions. In 2002, he published The Enemy of Nature: The end of capitalism or the end of the world. The second edition of the book was released in 2007. He edits the quarterly journal Capitalism Nature Socialism.
