Video artist Torsten Zenas Burns, whose work has been screened nationally and internationally, will be the guest speaker at a New Media lecture entitled “Collabotronica” at Purchase College on March 5 at 6:30 PM in the Neuberger Museum of Art. The lecture is co-sponsored by the New Media program and the Neuberger Museum, and is free and open to the public. For more information, call 914-251-6122.
Purchase College, State University of New York, is located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, N.Y.
Mr. Burns will present a selection of works by videomakers who work together and apart. The collaborative works by the Halflifers (which includes Mr. Burns and Anthony Dicenza), Darrin Martin, the Foundry, Virocode and Michael O’Malley chart a processed terrain of speculative fictions and claim them as their science.
Currently, Mr. Burns is teaching a course entitled “Shooting and Editing Digital Video” in the New Media program at Purchase College. He has created and curated video and installation projects exploring speculative content, including reimagined educational practices, experimental space programs, zombie/afterlife relationships, medical manifestations and splatstick choreographies. He has screened at video festivals in the United States and abroad and curated Hhorrrautica, a video program for the 2008 Stuttgarter Filmwinter Festival for Expanded Media. He holds a BFA in video from the New York State College of Art at Alfred University and an MFA in video and performance art from the San Francisco Art Institute.
