Dr. David Fairhurst will discuss “The Development of a Microbicide to Combat HIV” at Purchase College March 4 at 7 PM in The Performing Arts Center. Admission is free. The lecture is part of the College’s Science in the Modern World Lecture Series presented by the School of Natural and Social Sciences.

Dr. Fairhurst is an advisor to the International Partnership for Microbicides, a public-private partnership established in 2002. Its mission is to prevent HIV transmission by accelerating the development and availability of microbicides for use by women in developing countries.
He is also president of Colloid Consultants Ltd., a company that offers consulting services in the fields of cosmetics/personal care and formulation. He has over 40 years of experience in the practical application of colloid and surface chemistry and dispersion/emulsion technology. He received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Liverpool Polytechnic, U.K.
The lecture series is part of the Science in the Modern World academic program at Purchase College which investigates modern science and its role in society.
