Purchase College will be represented at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival January 17-27 with films by alumni Stanley Tucci, Austin Chick and Azazel Jacobs, and actor and former Purchase student Josh Hartnett, who is the lead in Chick’s film. All four studied in the School of the Arts, Conservatory of Theatre Arts & Film.
Emmy award winner Stanley Tucci, an acting major at Purchase, wrote, directed and stars in Blind Date, a remake of a film by Dutch director Theo van Gogh in which Tucci and Patricia Clarkson portray a married couple trying to reconnect by meeting as different people through personal ads.
Austin Chick was a film major at Purchase. He directs August, his second film to be screened at Sundance. August centers on a dot-com entrepreneur, played by former Purchase acting student Josh Hartnett, trying to keep his head above water in August 2001, a month before 9/11. In 2002, Chick brought his film XX/XY, starring Mark Ruffalo, to the festival.
Film alumnus Azazel Jacobs wrote and directed Momma’s Man, which tells the story of a man avoiding family responsibility who changes his mind after a stay in his parents’ loft. Jacobs cast his own parents and filmed in their apartment where he grew up.
