Purchase College alumnus Mario Arévalo is a finalist in the National Opera Association Voice Competition. The winner will be selected from six finalists on January 5 in Los Angeles, Calif. at the Association’s annual convention.
Mr. Arévalo was selected based on a recording he submitted, and will compete in the final round in a live audition before a panel of five judges.
Mr. Arévalo performed the lead role of Nero in Purchase Opera’s award-winning production of The Coronation of Poppea. As part of the Purchase Opera, he has also sung the roles of Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, L’Aumonier in the award-winning production of The Dialogues of Carmelites, King Kasper in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and the Sailor in Dido and Aeneas.
This spring Mr. Arévalo made his New York City debut at the Wall to Wall Opera Festival at Symphony Space. This summer he will be joining the Bard Summerscape Festival in the revival of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Sorcerer.
