Faculty artists Murray Zimiles, Antonio Frasconi, Sharon Horvath, Cassandra Hooper, Nancy Davidson and Dennis Fitzgerald have all donated artwork to the Purchase College annual Holiday Silent Auction to be held on November 13. The auction, sponsored by the School of Art+Design, begins at 4 PM in Room 1016 of the Art+Design Building, but artwork can be previewed from 12 noon to 4 PM. Submissions are in all media, and also include the work of alumni and students. For more information, call 914-251-6750.
Proceeds from the event will be used to fund scholarships and the student exhibition series.
Murray Zimiles’ paintings, which feature animals placed upon gesturally painted landscape fields, provoke thought and stir emotions, leaving the viewer to complete the metaphor.
Antonio Frasconi has illustrated and designed over 100 books, including America’s Vietnam, A Whitman Portrait, Langston Hughes’s Let America be America Again and Pablo Neruda’s Bestiary/Bestiario.
Sharon Horvath is an award-winning painter whose recent work includes abstract paintings and drawings.
Cassandra Hooper is a printmaker, photographer and book artist in whose work form and content are perfectly married and perfectly at odds. The images depict environments in states of chaos and serenity, order and decay.
In describing her work, painter Nancy Davidson says she “produces works that use humor and excess that repudiate currently held notions about women and the images they produce.”
Dennis Fitzgerald is a furniture maker and the past president of the Furniture Society.
