Purchase Repertory Theatre Presents “Celebrity,” Oct. 12-20

The “culture of celebrity” is the phenomenon of our time. The Purchase Repertory Theatre takes a closer look in a company-devised piece entitled Celebrity, inspired by the life and writing of Andy Warhol and directed by Mallory Catlett, October 12-20 at the Purchase College Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors and non-Purchase students and can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 914-251-6200 or online at www.artscenter.org.

Performances are October 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 at 8 PM and October 14 and 20 at 2 PM.

Season passes are $80 for individuals and $150 for couples, and entitle pass holders to unlimited attendance at all six productions this season.

Celebrity has been collectively created and written by the 17-member acting company and two dramatic writing majors under the direction of Ms. Catlett. The script draws directly from the writing of Warhol, Jeremy Blake, Theresa Duncan, Brigit Berlin and DJ Spooky.

Mallory Catlett last directed The Learned Ladies for the Purchase Repertory Theatre. Her recent work includes The Fall and Rise of the Rising Fallen at P.S. 122 in New York City. Her upcoming productions include Red Fly/Blue Bottle and Oh What War at HERE in 2008.

Ms. Catlett’s work has been seen at The Ontological, 3LD, the Collapsable Hole, HERE, the Culture Project, New York Theatre Workshop, the Public, Women’s Interart, Chashama and Bard College. She has received funding from the New York State Council for the Humanities, NYSCA, the Hamber Foundation, ArtsFact, the Puffin Foundation, New York State Music Fund, Abrons Art Center, Chashama, LMCC, British Columbia Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts.

The Purchase Repertory Theatre, featuring students from the School of the Arts, Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film, creates exciting and bold interpretations of classic and contemporary plays while bringing to the stage for the first time the next generation of actors, designers and technicians.

The Purchase Repertory Theatre Season continues with William Shakespeare’s As You Like It, November 2-10; New Plays Repertory, December 7-15; Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard February 8-16; Derek Walcott’s The Odyssey, February 29-March 8; and Tennessee Williams’ American Blues, April 25-May 3.
