Do I have to ‘express check out’?

Express Check-Out is the way to check out in all areas. All damage bills can be appealed in the event they are applied to your student account. This is being done to provide you with a quick checkout process.

I am not graduating, when do I have to check out?

You should check out 24 hours after your last final exam or by 10 a.m. on Wednesday May 15th 2024, whichever comes first. This means if you have a final at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, you would still need to be fully moved out by 10  a.m. on Wednesday.

I am graduating, when do I have to check out?

You should check out by 9 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024. 

I need to stay past the deadline, what should I do?

We cannot guarantee that you would be approved, but you should email RSL@purchase.edu. The email should include a detailed description of why you are needing to stay past the deadline. There may also be a charge involved with staying late. You will receive a confirmation email if approved.

I lost my keys. What should I do?

You should still fill out an express check out envelope. Make a note on it that you have lost your keys.  Please be advised, the key replacement will be charged to your student account during damage billing. Key replacement costs and other damage charges can be found on the Purchase website, along with damage billing process information.

My roommate left my room/suite/apartment a mess. What should I do?

Unfortunately, all occupants will be billed for an excessive mess. We would recommend you take a photo and provide this during damage billing appeals. However, because it is a shared space, all occupants are responsible. Start having those conversations with your roommate/suitemate/apartment-mates now about May closing.

Will I be billed for [insert damage]?

Damage billing is completed by the RCs. We cannot guarantee you will be billed or not. If you have a concern, we would suggest following up with an RC.

How do I appeal damages?

In the event you are billed for damage, you will be provided with an appeals link in the notification email. Damage billing process information can be found on the Purchase website.

When will I hear if my damage bill is appealed?

By the end of June.

Do I have to clean my apartment or room?

Residents should attempt to leave their apartment or room in the status they received it in. We understand that it is not going to be perfect, but it should be completed. It is ideal that furniture be moved back to its original configuration as well. You may be billed for furniture not in its original configuration. 

Do I need to clean out my fridge, even if the contents belong to my roommates?

Yes, your fridge should be cleaned out.

Can I give you cash for damage bills?

Unfortunately, our office does not accept payments. You can go to Student Financial Services website to arrange for payment or you can check online in your student account homepage after charges are made.
