Marie-Cécile Zinsou, born in 1982, is a Franco-Beninese citizen, appointed Chevalier of the “Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” in 2014. She is the President of the Fondation Zinsou, created in June 2005 in Benin. At the heart of the Fondation Zinsou’s mission are the promotion of African artistic heritage, education and development. Over the course of its thirteen years of existence, the Foundation has opened an exhibition space in the city of Cotonou, six mini-libraries and the continent’s first contemporary art museum in Ouidah. So far, it has welcomed more than five million visitors.

The Fondation Zinsou was awarded Japan’s Praemium Imperiale in 2014. In June 2015, Marie-Cécile Zinsou joined the board of directors of the Château de Versailles. Marie-Cécile Zinsou has been a member of the Metropolitan Museum’s Global Museum Leader Colloquium since April 2015.
