Study Abroad is the ‘International Programs’ part of the Office of International Programs and Services. The role of OIPS staff in relation to study abroad is to provide students with information & assistance on selecting and applying for international academic opportunities. We then prepare students for departure, support them while abroad, and help them re-enter back to the Purchase community. Additionally, our office maintains all foreign institution agreements and administers all Purchase Faculty-Led Programs Abroad.

Types of Programs Offered

  • Purchase Winter or Summer Session Faculty-Led Courses Abroad
  • Purchase Exchange Programs; competitive and major specific
  • More than 650 Semester, Academic Year, or Short-Term Programs offered though SUNY Partners


  • Students must be in good academic standing (>2.5 GPA)
  • Cannot be on probation during the proposed period of study
  • Transfer students are eligible after completing one semester at Purchase
  • Freshman may be eligible for some programs with additional interview
  • Some programs have specific eligibility requirements; contact OIPS for details

Students Should Begin By

  • Talking with advisors about when and what types of classes to take abroad (general education, major specific, upper level, etc.)
  • Making an appointment with OIPS to discuss program availability, scholarship availability, and the application process
  • Inquiring with Student Financial Services about how your award can be applied to studying abroad
