Dr. Jonas is an evolutionary biologist. He is interested in mechanisms that shape adaptation to climate change in plants. His current research explores the genetics and epigenetics of adaptation to future carbon dioxide conditions in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Dr. Jonas is also interested in broadening student participation in STEM. He is the Associate Director of the NIH Purchase College Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program. From 2018-2022, he was co-Principal Investigator of the NIH Purchase College MARC U*STAR Honors Program.
