Working in both classes and one-on-one with professors, you’ll engage in a rigorous curriculum that guides you from initial explorations to personal expression.

Painting and Drawing combines ways of seeing, thinking through material, and conceptual making.

You’ll develop the ability to create and maintain a studio—from your individual junior studio space to your professional practice after graduation.

We value the role of critique in art-making. Everyone participates in critique and review sessions conducted by the faculty and by visiting artists and critics.

And, our proximity to New York City means you’ll regularly visit artists’ studios, galleries, and museums.

Facilities

The expansive Visual Arts building offers  nine studio classrooms specifically designed for painting and drawing with large north-facing windows that provide excellent natural light.

Faculty

You’ll  benefit from the variety of views of faculty members who are all practicing and exhibiting artists.

“We try to instill in every student a sense of creative problem solving. None of the questions we pose have only one answer, so we need students to reflect on assignments in a way that is their own, and to come up with solutions that reflect who they are.”
