Kaori Kubo Germano

Assistant Professor of Practice of Psychology

As an Applied Developmental Psychologist I am concerned with conducting quality research to inform social policies, which in turn promote positive developmental outcomes for communities.  My role is to promote the application of research findings to effect changes in current social policy, educational programs, and developmental assessments.

More About Me

I truly believe that my happiness would not be possible without my beagles, playing golf under the bright summer sun, good books, bad television, long dinners with good friends, and the company of my husband and daughter

Research Interests

As an Applied Developmental Psychologist my focus in on using research to inform social policies, which in turn promote positive developmental outcomes for communities.  My main area of interest is in cognitive decision making processes and social and environmental factors that influence these. Some questions we explore in my lab are:

  • Do bilingual individuals experience heightened control processes, and thus make decisions more efficiently?
  • Is there a relationship with one’s cognitive functioning and moral decision making?
    • Are there certain cognitive conditions under which moral decision making is compromised?
    • What factors influence moral decision making?
  • What are the key factors that influence young people’s civic engagement (the decision to become involved in one’s community)?
  • How can college campuses promote and encourage civic engagement?
