Norman Canfield

Lecturer in Mathematics

I am a pseudo mathematician. I was a math minor. I am interested in the application of mathematical concepts in the sciences. What I really do is chemistry, particularly analytical, and using chromatography. I am a volunteer at Purchase and most of my time supports chemistry and biochemistry chromatography labs. I have a dotted-line relationship to mathematics and serve as an advisor and chief copy editor to the math BOS.

Research Interests

My research interest is in including high pressure liquid chromatography in undergraduate education. I may take on 1 senior project per year in this instrumental technique. The projects use the instrumentation in different chemistry applications. I am also interested in the general better utilization of instrumentation in chemistry.
