Andres Romero

Lecturer, Media Studies

Andrés Romero is a cultural anthropologist whose work focuses on the imbrications between violence, visual culture, health, and the environment. He has conducted ethnographic research in downtown Bogotá, Colombia with displaced communities living on the streets who shuttle between the city’s drug markets controlled by paramilitary and organized crime networks, and the city’s rehab centers that are overseen by the state. He was previously the co-editor for the Society for Cultural Anthropology’s Visual and New Media Review and the co-organizer for SCA’s Screening Room film series.
