Jamel Gaines ’87
Jamel Gaines ’87 is founder and artistic director of Brooklyn’s JGCO, Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet—a dance company, a performing arts school, and an ambassador for the arts in the community.

Teaching and choreographing for more than 22 years, Jamel Gaines has dedicated his career to bringing “artistic excellence and stirring, soaring performances” to a broad range of audiences as well as to “inspire, motivate and nurture dancers and artists.”
Gaines has recently choreographed performances by contestants on So You Think You Can Dance. (2010) and has worked with artists such as Jennifer Holiday, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Savion Glover, Malik Yoba, George Fasion, Ornette Coleman, Ossie Davis, Olatunje Babatunde, Max Roach, Cassandra Wilson, and Rick James.
