Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Design/Technology
Dane Laffrey is a set and costume designer and an educator based in New York City.
On Broadway, he designed the set and costumes for the acclaimed Deaf West revival of Spring Awakening and the set for the Broadway premiere of Sam Shepard’s Fool For Love. Off-Broadway and around the U.S., his work has included designs for the world premieres of more than 50 new American plays and musicals at theaters in New York, including Playwrights Horizons, Roundabout, Lincoln Center Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club, BAM, Atlantic Theatre Company, Second Stage, Vineyard Theatre, MCC, SoHo Rep, and LAByrinth. His regional credits include the Mark Taper Forum, Huntington Theatre Company, the Humana Festival, Williamstown Theatre Festival, the Old Globe, South Coast Rep, Goodspeed, Baltimore Center Stage, Woolly Mammoth, the Studio Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre, Denver Center Theatre Company, and Dallas Theatre Center, among others. Internationally, his work has been presented in Tokyo, Osaka, Oslo, and throughout Australia, including two seasons of “The Roast” on the ABC2 Network.
Laffrey has served on the advisory committee for Lincoln Center Theatre’s LCT3 and as a guest lecturer/designer at the Yale School of Music, Juilliard, New York University, Carnegie-Mellon University, Interlochen Arts Academy, the University of Western Sydney, and NIDA.
His work has been featured regularly online and in such publications as the New York Times and Boston Globe. He has been nominated for a Drama Desk Award, four American Theatre Wing Henry Hewes Design Awards, an Ovation Award, and numerous other regional accolades.
