Martha Lorena Rubi
Lecturer in Spanish
Martha Rubí is a native of Nicaragua and a New Yorker at heart.
She received her Ph.D in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures from the City University of New York at the Graduate Center. She holds an additional M.A. in Media Studies from the New School for Social Research in NY and worked for seven years at the United Nations. Her knowledge of Spanish, English, French and Portuguese classified her as an interpreter-translator and Program Assistant in World Projects, specifically NGOs at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
She has years of experience in teaching Spanish, French and Portuguese and advance courses in Spanish Grammar and Composition and Major level courses in Hispanic American Literature and Translation Methodologies in Higher Education at CUNY Colleges, private Universities, Westchester Community College and now Purchase College.
More About Me
Martha has also taught courses in the Film department at Westchester Community College and has several years of professional experience as a Social Events photographer at the Plaza Hotel where she specialized in Weddings and Debutante Balls.
She headed Study Abroad Programs for CUNY in Spain, Argentina and Brazil.
Martha has published a book: Politically Writing Women in Contemporary Latin American Literature and several articles. Currently she is working on a Literary Biography of Rubén Darío in Spanish.
