Joyce Arias ‘13
Joyce Arias ’13 is a proud native of the Bronx, New York - where she will tell you the best pizza and tacos live. She attended SUNY Purchase College for undergrad and Stony Brook University for her graduate work. Joyce found her passion in working with students as a Resident Assistant and Senior Community Assistant at Purchase, leading her to embark on a full time professional position as a Residence Coordinator for First Year Students. After two years as the Crossroads RC, proud of her students, and thankful for the faculty, staff, and mentors that helped her grow professionally, she was ready to embark on a new journey to support a new student community at Pace University - Pleasantville.
During her three years at Pace University, Joyce’s passion for working in Housing and Residence life grew through opportunities to dive into Clifton’s Strengthsquest, chair RA selection and training committees, and serve an upperclassman population. In 2015 she joined the Association of College and University Housing Officers - Internationals, Professionals of Color Network, and served as Co-Development Chair and currently serves as Co-Communications and Marketing Chair.
In April of 2017, Joyce joined the Housing and Residential Education team at The New School in New York City as the Housing Operations Coordinator. This shift from being on the front line in a residence hall to a central housing team has allowed her to contribute in a new way on the operational level, implementing procedures and policies affecting an entire residential community. She is excited about being back in her home of NYC and being surrounded by a passionate, innovative and driven student body that reminds of her alma matter, Purchase College.
An aficionado for everything New York, you can find her encouraging her students to learn by travel, lending a helping hand in the community, or seek inspiration through the many must-eat/must-see opportunities NYC has to offer.
