Lecturer in Art+Design
Jennifer Coates is an artist, writer, and musician in New York City. She has exhibited her work in numerous group shows locally and nationally, and has had solo exhibits at Feigen Contemporary, Kevin Bruk Gallery, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She has written art reviews for Time Out New York, Art in America, and the Brooklyn Rail, and published her first article, “The Goo of Paint,” for Modern Painters. Coates can also be heard playing violin and ukele and singing in various bands around New York City.
Coates earned her MFA at Hunter College, City University of New York, in 2001 and her BFA, cum laude, at the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1995.
