Shania Wofford ’18 Honored
For the first time in its history, a Purchase student has received the Harris Family Student Personal Safety Award from the New York State University Police Chief’s Association, an annual award given to a student who demonstrates a strong commitment to public safety on campus.
Congratulations to Shania Wofford ’18 (sociology), who received a plaque and a $750 prize at the Statewide University Police Award Luncheon.
Known for her cheerful attitude and her ability to resolve conflicts with patience and tact, she is deeply committed to building community, even in the face of its unpopularity among her peers. “Shania has been a driving force in bringing the community and the University Police closer by spearheading major community events based on communication, education, and cooperation,” says Lieutenant Donelle Charles.
Wofford also volunteers for the non-profit organization, Cradles to Crayons, which provides children from birth to age 12, living in low-income and homeless situations, with the essential items they need to thrive. She helped by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.
The NYSUP at Purchase are grateful for her efforts on campus. “What is truly staggering is how the efforts of one person, one particular person, can make a difference in addressing community issues,” says Charles.
