“Finding a way to help, I started by dusting off my sewing machine…
“Last month, in response to the shortage of protective gear for doctors, nurses, and hospital staff, I joined the Nyack Mask Makers, and every night and weekend since, I’ve been sewing face masks for Montefiore Nyack Hospital.
“The three-layer elastic supported pattern we use is per a specific request from the Doctor and Director of Infection Prevention at Montefiore for masks as close to Grade II PPE guidelines as we can make.
“So far, this group alone has already donated well over 4,000 masks to the hospital and will continue. There are so many hospitals and other facilities everywhere making requests for masks.
“Thankfully, hundreds of volunteers and several other groups just like Nyack Mask Makers are doing their best to respond. Once I shared information about this group, friends and family I didn’t even know owned sewing machines, were happy to jump in and are now also supporting this effort.
“#WashYourHands #StayAtHome and #StaySafe everyone. This too shall pass.”
