Spring Security Training

Spring Training

Spring Training!
New York State and SUNY require all employees to undergo Security Awareness training. Purchase College uses an online self-paced package called KnowBe4 to deliver that training. Training will be conducted in both the fall and the spring semesters.
Next Monday, March 2, you will receive an email message from the KnowBe4 system inviting you to begin Spring Training. The invitation will come from KnowBe4 “” with the subject line “Please Start Your Security Awareness Training.” You can also use this link to begin the training. A link to the training also appears in the “Quick Links” section of the Faculty/Staff Portal page.
The training takes about 30 minutes total - but it does not need to be completed in one sitting. It consists of three short interactive videos designed to improve awareness of information security threats and increase the likelihood that we will recognize those threats when we encounter them.
We are aiming for a short and focused spring training window from March 1st to March 31st.  If you have trouble accessing the system, please contact the Helpdesk at 914-251-6465 or create a work request so we can assist.
In the fall 2019 training round 64% of faculty and staff completed the training - a big increase from previous semesters. As a result, the Spring 2020 training round has been reduced to 3 videos / 33 minutes.  As more people participate in and complete the training, and fewer folks get themselves phished, we intend to reward that attentiveness by reducing the amount of training required on an ongoing basis.  The training material is universally described as “much better” than the previous training program.
As for the 36% of you who did NOT complete the fall training - it is still out there waiting for you. The supervisor notification for failure to complete the fall training has been turned off - for now - but will be turned back on later this spring.
And those who do get phished will receive an extra helping of training.
Please help us protect Purchase College and protect yourself – complete the training - and think twice before you click!
