Joe Branco ’17
In a letter to Linda Bastone, associate professor of psychology and chair, School of Natural and Social Sciences, Joseph Branco ’17 (biology) speaks fondly of his experience at Purchase. Congratulations to Branco on his acceptance to medical school.
“I graduated from Purchase College this past August with a degree in biology, and wanted to let you know that I was recently accepted to medical school at both Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and New York Medical College!
“I feel very strongly that the education I received at Purchase College as well as the absolutely excellent faculty is a large factor that has resulted in my acceptance. Each and EVERY faculty member of the biology, physics, and chemistry departments whose classes I have taken are of world-class caliber.
“The research that I conducted under Dr. Abrams’ guidance was beyond my expectations of what is normally offered by an undergraduate institution.
“The small size of Purchase College was instrumental in allowing me to get the most from my studies; not only did this allow faculty to give me individualized academic help, but also it made the one-on-one requirement of my academic research possible.
“When I chose Purchase College as my undergraduate institution with the goal of being accepted to medical school, I will admit I was initially wary. However, I have now learned that you truly cannot judge a book by its cover. My experience as a biology major at this institution was phenomenal.
“Along the way, many people have told me things like ‘if you want to go to medical school, you have to go to a big-name school.’ However, I now know this could not be more wrong. From what I have been hearing, more and more students have been accepted to nursing, PA, PT, PhD, DO, DDS, and MD programs from Purchase College.
“Thank you so much for your help and support along the way, and I am proud to be able to represent Purchase College along my journey to my future endeavors!”
