Open Classroom Performance: Purchase College Camerata

Time

12:30pm  — 1:30pm

Location

Neuberger Museum of Art
Under the tutelage of artistic director and accomplished harpsichordist Bradley Brookshire, The Purchase College Camerata will present gorgeous remnants of Bach’s orchestral concertos alongside some of their intact survivors from the Brandenburg Concertos and the Orchestral Suites.

Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos survived only because of a twist of fate, a happy accident. But Bach composed dozens of other orchestral concertos, now lost except for a few surviving bits and pieces scattered across the musical landscape like fragments of Classical sculpture on the Acropolis.

Under the tutelage of renowned harpsichordist and Conservatory of Music professor Bradley Brookshire, the Purchase College Camerata performs baroque and early classical music on modern orchestral instruments, but in light of historical performance practices.
