My Favorite Thing About Purchase

This year is my first year as an Admissions Ambassador, but so far on every tour I’ve been asked the same question by at least one parent: what is your favorite thing about Purchase College? I always have the same answer and can’t see it changing any time soon.
My favorite thing about Purchase is the people.
I can easily say that the friends I have made here are the best I have ever made. It’s funny how close you become with people in college because you are together almost every day. Purchase’s small campus also helps in terms of proximity. You are bound to run into people you love throughout the day, whether you run into each other at Starbucks or walk past one another on your way class. This is also perfect for when you make a new friend. On other campuses you wouldn’t see each other again unless you are in the same class, and then not get the chance to nurture the relationship or see where it could have gone. Here, you will see them around, say hi, and most likely make plans to meet up, adding one more friend to your list. In my opinion, you can never have too many. At college, your friends become like family; they make you laugh and they teach you so much.
I feel so fortunate to have met and talked to other Purchase students who have all come from different backgrounds. I have learned about other people and cultures by having conversations and taking the time to listen. These talks have changed my perspective and have easily made me a much better person than I was when I walked onto campus as freshman. I am so grateful to have learned more about the world around me and never want to stop being educated. Purchase has a friendly, diverse community that is willing to share their thoughts. It’s the ideal environment to ask questions and erase ignorance. I feel more connected to others through friendship and through understanding more about various cultures.
