A year ago, I auditioned for Sabotage, Purchase College’s Hip-Hop Dance Team, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. After the nerves and routines, I made it onto the team and didn’t know, during our first rehearsal, that in the room at the time were two of my soon-to-be best friends. With each time the team met up, we spoke more and more and before I knew it they knew more about me than I did. I can’t believe in writing this today that we have only known each other for a year. The rate at which someone can go from being a stranger to a sibling is one of my favorite things about college, specifically about Purchase College. It’s amazing how fast someone can mean so much and how strong friendships can be in a college environment.

Joining the team also gave me more confidence as an individual and, of course, as a dancer. Yet, I am most grateful for the people I have met because of it. My whole life I have been told to get involved and now I know why. Of all the places to get involved, I chose the right one. The community at Purchase College is unlike any other. I am grateful to be a part of it, proud to be a Sabotage dancer, and beyond lucky to have the friends I do.
